Advent Season Activities – Outreach Opportunities:
Warmth Tree – We collect all types of winter clothing especially for younger kids: mittens, socks, hats and scarves. Hang them on the Warmth Tree or place them underneath. The Warmth Tree will be located just outside the Sanctuary in the foyer. The items collected are given to those in need through the Clay County Clothes Closet.
Food Pantry Drive – Once again throughout the Advent season people are asked to bring non-perishable items to be placed under the Christmas tree. When ever possible, please wrap the items in white tissue paper. These items will be used to replenish our Food Pantry.
Christmas Card – A special greeting card is created that we hope you will sign rather than sending individual Christmas cards to other members of Barry. Along with signing the card please make a donation made in the amount of money saved from the cost of purchasing cards and the postage to mail them. (The money raised will go to Church Finance Council as a part of our mission outreach.) The Barry Christian Church Christmas card with everyone’s signatures will be printed in the December 15th edition of the newsletter.
Christmas Eve offering – On Christmas Eve, we will receive a special offering that will go to the emergency fund of Barry Christian Church. This emergency fund is what we use to help people in need within our own community.

The Barry Caring Challenge is on!
What is the Barry Caring Challenge? It is a call to action for each of us to love and care for one another.
It consists of 12 activities or "challenges" for you to complete over about 8 months from September 28 to early May. Sponsored by the Growth and Hospitality Committee, the idea for the Challenge came from last year's survey in which our congregation was described as loving, giving, friendly, sincere, warm, welcoming, caring, concerned and helpful. Wow! We want to build on that strength with an activity that will further reinforce the ties between us, expand the ways we care for one another and allow each of us to grow in our faith. To that end, we hope you (yes, YOU) will participate. We've given you very few excuses not to - the activities should be enjoyable and will not take much time.
To get started, simply pick up a Challenge Checklist and watch the bulletins, newsletters and church email list for more details. Checklists will be available at the bulletin board outside the sanctuary foyer. The checklist lists all the activities in the challenge, but not too many details. Every few weeks, an activity will be featured in the bulletin, newsletter and church email list. At this time, you will get all of the information you may need to complete that activity. Please note that you do not need to complete the activities exactly when they are featured. It may be easiest to do this, but you can do them any time.
In the end, we will celebrate everyone's participation - whether you complete one challenge activity or all twelve - with a dinner. We will plan to see you there because we know you're up for the challenge!
Barry Caring Challenge Checklist
Just as I have loved you, you should also love one another. John 13:34

New Book for the Library!
Robert Stewart, our youth pastor wrote a book and gave copy to the church library.
The book is a true story about a boy with a dream of becoming a basketball player one day. He is faced with many doubts, obstacles, and temptations such as sex, drugs, etc. The boy decides to trust God and pray from time to time to see if God is really there for him. The book explores what happens when one is obedient and sometimes disobedient to God when following their dreams. Robert would recommend the book to anyone who has a goal, desire, or dream and plans on following their heart no matter the odds against them.

School is back in session for yet another year. I know students and parents have mixed emotions as they gear back up for school. Being a student myself I know that there are many pros and cons to a new school year. I think it is important to start off on a good note. What better way to start and establish good habits for the school year than to join or re-new your commitment to Youth group? Stop by on Sunday nights 5-7pm for both physical and spiritual food to prepare you for each new school week. Any person in the church that would like to visit, contribute, assist, or present what is in their heart is more than welcome.
Thanks
Rob Stewart Youth Pastor
Here is the normal agenda for Youth/JYF Sunday night meetings, which are in the Youth rooms upstairs in the Education wing.
JYF 1st-5th
CYF/Chi Rho 6th-12th
Both groups start with prayer and mealtime together. We then split up and do age appropriate lessons & activities that are Scripture centered.
We then meet together at the end of our time and all pray together before leaving. We work on songs, posters, Bible questions, etc. By splitting the kids up we are able to meet them at their level but we also provide a sense of community by eating and praying together as one huge group.

The stewardship of life
'Life is an accomplishment. Each moment has a meaning and you must use it. Life is given to you like a flat piece of land and everything has to be done. I hope that when I'm finished, my piece of land will be a beautiful garden.'
