Pastor Dennis has been serving in the ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for almost four decades; pastoring churches in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and now here at Barry Christian Church in Kansas City, Missouri. He has also served as an Air Force Reserve Chaplain, a hospital chaplain, and a pastoral counselor.
Dennis first encountered the living presence of our Lord Jesus Christ through the inspiring New Testament preaching of Bro. T.E. Veale, who baptized Dennis during his teenage years. Inspired by the nurturing fellowship of believers at Marbach Christian Church in San Antonio, Dennis delivered his first sermon at age fifteen.
Dennis is a graduate of Phillips University and the Graduate Seminary of Enid, Oklahoma. He earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and also acquired advanced training in Clinical Pastoral Education from the Baptist Medical Center in San Antonio.
His wife, Carrie, grew up in a German-Catholic family on a farm in the Willamette Valley of Oregon and transitioned into the fellowship of the Christian Church while she was serving in the Air Force. Carrie and Dennis have been married for more than three decades. Carrie has been an educator for over thirty years.
Dennis and Carrie have one son who is the third generation of the family to serve in the United States Air Force. He is a graduate of the Air Force Academy and presently stationed as an officer in Colorado Springs.
Touched by a living relationship with Jesus and inspired by faithful believers throughout their lives, Pastor Dennis and Carrie consider it a privilege to honor God and serve others in ministry. As the Apostle Paul reminds us: “Everything you do or say, then, should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, as you give thanks through him to God the Father” (Colossians 3:17 TEV).
