Honor God, Seek Christ, Serve Others Together

Worship

We welcome you to experience the spiritual presence of God in our Sunday morning worship services at 8:30 or 11:00.  A traditional style of worship led by lay leaders and our pastor welcomes you to seek meaningful ways to experience the nearness of God through mutual fellowship, hymns of praise, prayer and proclamation of the Word of God.  As James 4:8 tells us:  “Come near to God and he will come near to you.”

Music at Barry Christian Church

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—shout for joy before the LORD, the King.  Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. – Psalm 98:4-7

Music is an integral part of worship at Barry Christian Church. The Chancel choir is made up of volunteers from the congregation, and led by our Director of Music, Andrew Schmidt. The choir sings pieces in style ranging from jazz and gospel to modern and classical.  The choir meets weekly on Wednesday evenings, and is open to all who wish to join. Members of the choir and congregation participate in special music contributions during worship on occasion.  The children at Barry Christian Church participate in the music in worship as part of the children’s choir; a group that meets during the Sunday School hour.  During the course of the weekly worship services, the congregation and chancel choir join together in singing hymns.  The magnificent 3 manual, 28 rank Reuter pipe organ in the Sanctuary, accompanies the hymns.  Lenora Remmert is the organist and choir pianist.  During worship, the organ is used to provide prelude and postlude music at the beginning and end of the service, as well as during music for the communion and offertory.

Everyone is welcome please feel free to join in the ministry of music at Barry Christian Church!

The Pipe Organ at Barry Christian Church

The Reuter Organ Company, Opus 1258 3 Manuals, 28 Ranks

The Reuter Organ Company built the pipe organ at Barry Christian Church in 1959.  It was originally housed at the University of Kansas as an instrument designated for practicing, and was housed in Murphy Hall. At the time of its construction it had three manuals and twenty-two ranks of pipes.  In 1986, the organ was relocated to Barry Christian Church.  In 2006, the organ was increased by six ranks of pipes to a total of twenty-eight ranks, and was furnished with a solid state switching system.  In 2008, the organ console was updated to include MIDI functionality, a recording and playback system, and updated components.  The action of the organ is electro-pneumatic, with enclosed swell and choir divisions.
